Staggering numbers:
3,458 deaths
In 2023, 3,458 people died from a drug overdose in Washington State. (These statistics are preliminary and were provided by the Washington Department of Health).
Overdoses increased:
28% greater
The number of overdose deaths in Washington State rose by 28% from 2022 to 2023.
The driving factor is fentanyl:
76%
Roughly 76% of Washington State overdose deaths involved fentanyl in 2023. The second highest contributor was methamphetamine.
